India keeper-batter KL Rahul won the Fielder of the Match medal in the Indian dressing room post the ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Pakistan on October 14 in Ahmedabad.
The Men in Blue registered a thumping 7-wicket win over arch-rivals Pakistan. Put into bat first, Pakistan managed only 191 runs despite being 155/2 at one stage. Babar Azam with 50 and Mohammad Rizwan with 49 were the top scorers for Pakistan.
In reply, Rohit Sharma hammered the Pakistani bowlers to all parts of the Narendra Modi stadium. While Pakistani batters couldn’t hit a single six, Sharma hit 6 sixes and 6 fours in his 63-ball 86-run knock. Then Shreyas Iyer completed the job remaining unbeaten on 53 as India won by 7 wickets.
After the match, the BCCI shared a video of the award presentation in the Indian dressing room. The Fielder of the Match award is one new thing that has been started by the Indian team in this ongoing ICC World Cup 2023.
This honor was unveiled by the team's fielding coach, T Dilip, to recognize exceptional fielding efforts that significantly contribute to the team's performance.
Virat Kohli was the first winner of this medal against Australia, while Shardul Thakur got the medal against Afghanistan.
This time around, KL Rahul won the medal for his excellent keeping against Pakistan, which involved a brilliant diving catch of Imam Ul Haq. He was sound behind the stumps on a pitch that had variable bounce. India fielding coach T Dilip praised the efforts of the bowlers on the field and Shreyas Iyer before giving the award to Rahul, much to the delight of the squad.
KL Rahul couldn’t believe when his name flashed on the TV screen for the best fielder medal and when he received the medal from Shardul Thakur, the entire dressing room erupted in joy.
