CWC 2023: WATCH – “Ek match ki wajah se meri kaptaani jaayegi nahi,” says Babar Azam ahead of India vs Pakistan clash

Pakistan have never defeated India in the history of Cricket World Cup.

Babar Azam | ScreengrabThere is a lot of hype around the India versus Pakistan World Cup 2023 clash, slated to be held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday (October 14).

For the record, Pakistan have never defeated India in the history of 50-over World Cups. The arch-rivals have faced each other seven times, with India emerging victorious on all occasions.

In the past, many Pakistani captains have also lost their leadership positions after losing to India in the World Cup.

However, Pakistan’s current skipper Babar Azam isn’t reading too much into history and neither he is worried about his spot as captain.

“Mai iss cheez par kabhi vo nahi karta ki iss match ki wajah se meri kaptaani chali jayegi. Allah ne jitna mere liye likha hai utna mai karunga. Jitna mera Allah par believe hai, utni mujhe milegi. Mujhe ek match ki wajah se kaptaani mili nahi hai, ya ek match ki wajah se meri jaayegi nahi (I don't believe that I would lose my captaincy because of this game. I will achieve whatever God has decided for me. I didn't get captaincy because of one match, and I won't lose it because of one either),” Babar said in the pre-match press conference.

Both India and Pakistan are coming into this marquee fixture by winning their first two World Cup matches.

While the Men in Blue registered comprehensive wins over Australia and Afghanistan, the Men in Green defeated Netherlands and Sri Lanka. In fact, Pakistan pulled off the highest successful run chase in World Cup history to defeat Sri Lanka by six wickets in Hyderabad on October 10.
