CWC 2023: WATCH – Steve Smith in total disbelief after LBW decision goes against him during Australia-South Africa game

The Hawkeye showed three reds even though it seemed that the ball would go down leg-side.

Steve Smith | HotstarSteve Smith was left stunned after being given out LBW by the third umpire in Match 10 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 between Australia and South Africa in Lucknow on Thursday (October 12).

During the 10th over of Australia’s chase, Smith tried to flick a ball down the leg side from Kagiso Rabada but the delivery hit his pad.

While Smith gestured with his hands that the ball was missing leg, the Proteas players were quite confident and made a huge appeal.

After the on-field umpire declared it not out, South African skipper Temba Bavuma opted for a review. The first reaction of everyone was that the ball would go down leg-side but Hawkeye showed three reds, much to the dismay of the Australian fans.

Steve Smith was in total disbelief after ball-tracking showed that the ball would have gone on to hit the leg stump.

Steve Smith walked back to the pavilion for 19 off 16 balls as Australia were reduced to 50/3 while chasing the massive target of 312.

At the time of writing this article, the five-time champions were reeling at 95/6 after the end of 25 overs.
