Apart from Rohit Sharma’s blazing hundred and Jasprit Bumrah’s magical spell, the fans were treated with a lasher show during the World Cup 2023 match between India and Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Wednesday (October 11).
During the drinks break at the end of the 17th over, the floodlights were switched off and nearly 35,000 fans were singing ‘Maa Tujhe Salaam’ in chorus. The mobile torch lights were waving across the ground as well, creating an electrifying atmosphere.
Many fans who attended the match shared the video of that surreal moment on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Coming to the match, India registered a crushing eight-wicket victory over Afghanistan. It was their second successive win in the showpiece event and a real confidence booster ahead of the marquee clash against arch-rivals Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14.
Riding on Jasprit Bumrah’s four-wicket haul (4/39), India restricted Afghanistan to 272/8 in 50 overs after being asked to bowl first.
In reply, the Men in Blue rode on Rohit Sharma’s whirlwind century (131 off 84 balls) and handy contributions from Virat Kohli (55*) and Ishan Kishan (47) to overhaul the target with 15 overs to spare.
