CWC 2023: Shubman Gill likely to hit the nets today in Ahmedabad – Report

Gill has already missed India’s first two World Cup matches due to dengue.

Shubman Gill | GettyAhead of their high-octane World Cup 2023 clash against arch-rivals Pakistan, Team India are sweating over the recovery of their star opener Shubman Gill.

Notably, Gill has already missed India’s first two World Cup matches against Australia and Afghanistan due to dengue fever.

While Shubman is racing against time to be fit for the Pakistan game, a report published in CricketNext claims that the classy right-hander is set to hit the nets on Thursday (October 12) in Ahmedabad, where the marquee India-Pakistan encounter is due to take place on October 14.

It is worth mentioning here that Gill travelled from Chennai to Ahmedabad on Wednesday (October 11) evening.

“Gill took the evening flight from Chennai yesterday and reached Ahmedabad last night. He is now likely to hit the ground today and we will then see how the body reacts to physical activity. There is going to be no rush, one step at a time,” a source told News18 CricketNext.

Shubman Gill was hospitalized in Chennai on Monday (October 9) after his platelet count dropped below 1,00,000 per micro litre, but was discharged in a day and continued his recovery in the hotel.

Addressing the media on the eve of the Afghanistan match, India batting coach Vikram Rathour also confirmed the news.

“He is recovering well; he was hospitalized yes, but that was more as a precaution. He is back in the hotel [in Chennai]. He is looking good, being monitored by the medical team. Whatever update we get, we are hoping that he will recover pretty soon,” Rathour had said.

Gill’s return will bolster the already scary looking Indian batting line-up. He has dominated the 50-over format like no other this year. In 20 ODIs, the Punjab lad has aggregated 1230 runs at a staggering average of 72.35 and a strike rate of 105.03 with five hundreds, which also includes a double ton against New Zealand.
