Tom Moody hailed Virat Kohli as an all-time ODI great and claimed that Australia paid a price for dropping him during their opening match in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Chennai on October 8.
Mitchell Marsh dropped Kohli at 12, and the chase master went on to play a crucial knock of 85 runs as well as add 165 runs with KL Rahul (97*) to help Team India beat Australia by 6 wickets in their first game in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.
Well, Moody said that Kohli understood the pace of the ODI game better than anyone in the world, and dropping him by Marsh was definitely the turning point of the match.
Tom Moody was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo: “Virat Kohli understands the pace of ODI cricket and the pace of ODI cricket understands him. Australia missed the golden opportunity to dismiss one of the game's greatest ever 50-over players and that really was a significant moment of the match and there was no question about that.”
Moody also lauded Rahul for taking the pressure off Kohli and said that the partnership between the duo set the tone for the Men in Blue against Australia.
He further mentioned, “KL Rahul came in and took the pressure away from Kohli to a certain extent and that's what good partnerships do, because at times when things are not running smoothly for you, you want someone to come in and apply pressure like KL Rahul did at times.”
Moody signed off by saying, “He hit Adam Zampa for a couple of boundaries in the spinners first over and small wins like that shift the momentum of the match in your favour.”
