CWC 2023: WATCH – “After pitching what's going to happen even I don't know,” Shardul Thakur’s candid answer about his bowling

Shardul has emerged as a genuine wicket-taker for India in the 50-over format.

Shardul Thakur | ICCAll-rounder Shardul Thakur came up with a rather hilarious explanation when former West Indies cricketer-turned-commentator asked him a question about his bowling during India’s practice session ahead of their World Cup 2023 opener against Australia at Chepauk on Sunday (October 8).

Shardul was picked in India’s 15-member World Cup squad due to his brilliant exploits with the ball in recent times. He has emerged as a genuine wicket-taker for India in the 50-over format, especially with his scrambled-seam or wobbled-seam deliveries.

However, Shardul himself has no clue how the scambled-seam works, as he candidly admitted while speaking to Bishop in a video shared by ICC on Instagram.

"I don't know. I just hold it like this and bowl it. I don't do much, happens whatever happens (smiles). It is difficult to get the ball to reverse in ODI cricket. So you have to use these tactics, maybe bowl cross-seam or scrambled seam. After pitching what's going to happen even I don't know. The batter is always guessing, I am always guessing, so probably leave it to the hands of God (laughs)," Shardul said.

Shardul Thakur failed to make a cut in India’s XI for the World Cup match against Australia in Chennai. The Indian team management preferred to go with three spinners and it turned out to be a good decision as the Men in Blue defeated Australia by six wickets to open their campaign.

It remains to be seen whether Shardul gets a chance in India’s next World Cup fixture or not. The Rohit Sharma-led side is due to take on Afghanistan in Delhi on Wednesday (October 11).
