Yuvraj Singh, the iconic all-rounder and the hero of India's historic World Cup triumph in 2011, didn't mince his words while talking about Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal during Team India’s opening game against Australia in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in Chennai.
The talented India batter was tasked with the crucial number 4 position in India’s high-stakes opening match at the Cricket World Cup 2023, but the right-hander badly failed to live up to expectations, falling for ducks against Australia at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 8.
Highlighting the need for Iyer to rise to the occasion, Yuvraj’s words ring loud and clear, as he said that the number 4 batter must bear the weight of expectations and handle the pressure that comes with it.
The legendary all-rounder also questioned why KL Rahul was not batting in No. 4 for India.
Yuvraj Singh posted: “No 4 batsman has to absorb the pressure!! Need better thinking from @ShreyasIyer15 when the team is trying to rebuild their innings! Still don’t understand why @klrahul is not batting at no 4! After scoring a 100 against Pakistan! Dropping @imVkohli might cost Australia big time, don’t drop the king because he can take the game away. Game on!!”
Notably, India managed to get off the winning start in the ongoing World Cup 2023, thanks to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s stunning fifties against Australia on the trying pitch in Chepauk Stadium.
The Men in Blue will face Afghanistan in their next World Cup 2023 match in Delhi on October 11 before taking on the arch-rivals Pakistan in Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 14.
