CWC 2023: WATCH- Virat Kohli’s terrific diving catch in slips sends back Mitchell Marsh for a duck

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first in Chennai.

Virat Kohli's diving effort sent back Mitch Marsh for a duck | XThe 5th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 saw hosts India clash with Australia on October 8. The match is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and is the first encounter in the tournament for both teams.

Australia captain Pat Cummins won the toss and chose to bat first. The reason being the Chepauk pitch traditionally helping the spinners in the second half under lights.

Cummins also revealed that Adam Zampa was the Kangaroos’ only specialist spinner with Glenn Maxwell aiding him in the spin department. But they are going in with three pacers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Cummins.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma revealed that Ishan Kishan will open with him as Shubman Gill is still unwell after contracting dengue. India went with three spinners Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and R Ashwin.

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj gave India a good start by keeping the two Australian openers David Warner and Mitchell Marsh quiet for the first two overs. Then Bumrah, in his second over, troubled Marsh outside the off-stump on the first ball.

The second ball by Bumrah to Marsh pitched in the corridor of uncertainty and the batter prodded at it tentatively. But it resulted in an edge that flew in between the first slip and keeper KL Rahul.

Virat Kohli at the first slip, threw himself to his left and pouched the ball safely.
