CWC 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Pakistan defeat Netherlands by 81 runs; make a winning start to World Cup campaign

Saud Shakeel | GettyPakistan and Netherlands clashed in the second match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 on October 6. This match was played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

Scott Edwards, Netherlands captain, won the toss and invited Pakistan to bat first. The Men in Green lost openers Fakhar Zaman and Imam Ul Haq early. And then captain Babar Azam also followed them for 5 runs.

At 38/3, Saud Shakeel (68) and Mohammad Rizwan (68) added 120 runs for the fourth wicket. But then Bas de Leede and Netherlands bowlers picked some crucial wickets as Pakistan slipped to 182/5.

But then Shadab Khan (32) and Mohammad Nawaz (39) propelled them to 286 runs in 49 overs. Bas de Leede shined for the Dutch with four wickets to his name.

Bas de Leede made 67 and picked 4 wickets | GettyIn reply, Pakistani bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals. Vikramjit Singh made 52 and Bas de Leede made 67 runs. But apart from them and Logan van Beek’s 28*, none of the batters were able to force the pace against disciplined Pakistani bowling.

Netherlands were bowled out for 205 runs in 41 overs. Haris Rauf picked 3/43 and Hasan Ali took two wickets. Saud Shakeel was named the Player of the Match.

Pakistan will next face Sri Lanka at the same ground on October 10, while Netherlands take on New Zealand, also in Hyderabad on October 9.

Meanwhile, the cricket fraternity was all praiseful for the Pakistani team and lauded them for their win.
