In a big relief for the Indian supporters, Team India head coach Rahul Dravid confirmed on Friday (October 6) evening that Shubman Gill has not yet been ruled out of their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 opener against Australia.

Earlier on Friday, reports emerged that Shubman tested positive for dengue and had a high fever, so he is highly unlikely to play in India’s opening match in the ongoing Cricket World Cup 2023.

The reports certainly left the Indian fans worried, as the young opener has been in great form in ODI cricket this year, amassing 1,230 runs from 20 ODIs at an impressive average of 72.35. Well, to ease tension among the fans, Rahul Dravid provided a major update on Gill’s health.

Dravid revealed that Gill is feeling better today, and they are still considering the Punjab lad for their CWC 2023 opener against Australia, which is set to be played on Sunday, October 8, in Chennai.

Rahul Dravid said during a press conference: “He’s certainly feeling better today. The medical team is monitoring on daily basis. We have 36 hours, we’ll see what decision they take. He’s certainly feeling better today.”

Dravid signed off by saying, “Medical team hasn’t ruled him out as yet. We’ll keep monitoring him on a day to day basis. We’ll see how he feels day after tomorrow.”

It is being said that if Gill fails to recover in time, then the Indian cricket team management could promote Ishan Kishan to open the innings alongside Indian captain Rohit Sharma for the match against Australia in Chennai.
