CWC 2023: “Where’s the crowd?”- Netizens after seeing empty stands in Ahmedabad for Cricket World Cup opener

New Zealand and England are clashing in Cricket World Cup 2023 opener.

Ahmedabad stadium virtually empty for CWC 2023 opener | GettyICC Cricket World Cup 2023 began amidst a lukewarm response at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The opening encounter between England and New Zealand on October 5 saw very low crowd attendance in the largest cricket stadium in the world.

A lot of excitement surrounded the competition and the organisers were all ready for a full house at the venue. There was good marketing for the tournament which is being hosted by India solely for the first time.

While there was a lot of excitement and anticipation ahead of the first match of the competition, it wasn't exactly a jam-packed stadium awaiting the teams, much to the disappointment of several lovers of the sport.

A picture showing the sparsely populated stands at the world's largest cricket facility which can accommodate over 130,000 fans went viral. Some fans online have blamed the organizers for the last minute announcement of the schedule and crazy ticket prices for the same.

Some blamed for barely any advertising for the Cricket World Cup leading to a lack of enthusiasm.

It should be noted that more fans are expected in cooler conditions in the evening with the temperatures expected to hover in the mid-30s on the match afternoon in Gujarat.

But this image of empty stands in the Narendra Modi Stadium for the England vs. New Zealand Cricket World Cup 2023 opener left the fans bewildered. They shared their response on social media platform X.
