Legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers heaped praise on Shreyas Iyer, saying that his batting style reminds him of the Indian opener Shubman Gill.

Shreyas recently returned to action after a significant injury layoff. It was a tough year for Iyer, as the right-hander underwent surgery in London due to a severe back injury, which forced him to miss the entire IPL 2023 season, the WTC Final 2023, and the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

However, Iyer made a comeback with the Asia Cup 2023, but he suffered back spasms after a couple of matches, and he had to yet again undergo rehab. But he made a quick recovery and returned to the recent ODI series against Australia at home with a full bang.

Iyer scored a hundred in a second ODI against Australia and Team India, and fans are hoping he will make a big impact in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, starting on October 5, 2023.

Meanwhile, AB de Villiers made the bold statement that Iyer’s batting looks very similar to Shubman Gill. The former South African batter said that he loves watching Iyer bat. He also mentioned that Iyer is always composed and very calm when he bats, which is very similar to Gill.

As reported by Onecricket, De Villiers said on his YouTube channel: “I love watching Shreyas Iyer bat. I love what he does in the middle, always composed, very calm, and reminds me of Shubman Gill.”

Both batters will be in action when India faces Netherlands in the second warmup game in Trivandrum on October 3.
