Batting superstar Virat Kohli was not part of the Indian team that traveled to Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday (October 1). Kohli, reportedly requested permission from the team management to fly back home to Mumbai instead, due to a family emergency.

“A source from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that he went to Mumbai for personal reasons. Virat will rejoin the team soon,” the source said something a spokesman for the team also confirmed, as per Cricbuzz.

As per the report, Kohli is expected to rejoin the team on Monday in Thiruvananthapuram, where India will play their second and final warm-up game against Netherlands on Tuesday. India's first warm-up game against England was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain in Guwahati.

Indian team arrived in Thiruvananthapuram on a special aircraft after a four-hour flight from Guwahati. The wet weather in the city casts more doubt on how much play will be possible in the warm-up clash between India and Netherlands on Tuesday. Rain has already forced two warm-up games in Thiruvananthapuram to be abandoned.

India are scheduled to have an optional practice session on Monday, if the weather allows.

“Team India will have an optional training session from 2 PM onwards at the KCA - St Xavier's College Cricket Ground, Thiruvananthapuram, weather permitting,” said the team's spokesman.
