CWC 2023: ‘Only mindset reflected is yours’- Mithali Raj's retort to journalist citing her defensive mindset in ODIs

The journo pointed out difference between ODI thinking of two generation of batters.

Mithali Raj | XFormer India women’s team captain Mithali Raj replied to a journalist’s attempted jibe at her when he posted his thoughts on different mindsets of cricketers in ODIs, comparing Her’s with that of former England captain Kevin Pietersen.

This was regarding her cricketing opinion which was in contrast with that of the stylish former England batsman Kevin Pietersen, when both were doing broadcasting duties in the India vs England warm-up match of the World Cup 2023 on Saturday in Guwahati.

Both Mithali Raj and Pietersen are working with Star Sports for the ongoing World Cup 2023 in India. India played their first warm-up match against England on Saturday at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati. The match was washed out after the toss had happened. Rohit Sharma had won the toss and chosen that India will bat first.

During the show after the toss and before the start of the match, both Mithali and Pietersen were asked what sort of target would India want to give to England batting first.

Mithali spoke first and said that India should look to score atleast 280 runs. On the other hand, Pietersen who endorses an aggressive brand of ODI cricket, said that India shouldn’t think of anything under 350.

Journalist Shashank Kishore then posted on X (formerly Twitter): “ODI mindset in a sentence: Mithali: “India would look to get 280”, Pietersen: “Nothing less than 350.”’

This post reached Mithali as well, who after almost 22 hours, quoted it and said: The only “mindset” reflected in this tweet is yours.’

The journo then explained that he was showing the difference between the ODI mindset of two different generations of batters Mithali and Pietersen.

Mindset of two different generations of batters. That’s all Can’t keep explaining tweets to people, no?” he posted.
