Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan produced a brilliant batting performance in his maiden innings on Indian soil during the 2023 ODI World Cup warm-up match against New Zealand at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Friday (September 29).
Rizwan came out to bat at No. 4 when the Men in Green were struggling at 46/2. It was a tricky phase and the right-hander ensured Pakistan don’t suffer any more hiccups as he added 114 runs for the third wicket with skipper Babar Azam.
While Babar fell after scoring 80 off 84 balls, Rizwan held the one end firmly and went to slam a century. He reached the three-figure mark with a boundary off Daryl Mitchell in the 40th over. In the process, he also stitched a 159-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Saud Shakeel (75 off 53 balls).
Soon after completing his hundred, Mohammad Rizwan walked off the field retired out, having smashed 103 off 94 balls. His knock was studded with 9 fours and 2 sixes.
Taking to Instagram, the official handle of ICC shared a video of Rizwan’s ton with the caption, “A century for Mohammad Rizwan in his first innings on Indian soil”.
Thanks to Rizwan’s hundred and half-centuries from Babar and Saud, Pakistan piled up a mammoth 345/5 in their allotted 50 overs.
