Veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has replaced all-rounder Akshar Patel in India's 15-member squad for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Akshar, who suffered a left quadriceps strain during the Bangladesh Super-4 clash in the Asia Cup 2023, was undergoing rehab at the National Cricket Academy, but failed to recover fully in time and as a result is the only change in India's World Cup squad which was announced earlier.

37-year-old Ashwin has been drafted in as a replacement, as he impressed against Australia after picking up four wickets in two matches at Mohali and Indore, before he was rested for the dead rubber as India won the series 2-1.

Ashwin is now only the second member of India's 2011 World Cup winning team, after Virat Kohli, to be part of the 2023 edition - with both playing their second World Cup at home and fourth overall.

India will play two warm-up matches on September 30 (against England) and October 3 (against Netherlands), before kick-starting their campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8.

India's World Cup squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammad Shami, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav.
