Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has playfully warned opponents about stealing runs against him in the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.
Actually, Kishan was asked about his role switching between keeping and fielding duties for Team India as KL Rahul returned as wicketkeeper after an injury break ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023.
With a mischievous grin, Kishan revealed that he has been honing his outfield throwing skills, aiming to make his presence felt.
In a joke, he humorously warned that he might just run out those daring to steal a quick second run against him in the ongoing ODI series against Australia and the prestigious World Cup 2023, where every run, and even every run-out threat, matters.
Ishan Kishan was quotes as saying by India Today, “I am working hard on my throwing arm. If they try to take two runs from my hand in the World Cup, I would try and get some of them via run-outs (chuckles). Not showing yet my best throwing arm and hopefully, I can get them in World Cup and get some run-outs (chuckles).”
On being asked about the constant shift between opening and middle-order in the batting order, Ishan said: “You know, you are not sure where you are gonna bat when you are playing at this level. Especially in this team, where you have got such good batters. Whenever I open the batting, I love to be as aggressive as I can so that I can give a very good start to my team and build a long innings. At the same time when you bat in the middle order, you need to read the situations.”
He signed off by saying, “You need to know what role you have on the side, you need to assess the conditions. Accordingly, you need to see the situation and see the challenges in front and bat accordingly. Even though opened the innings, it doesn't make a big difference to me. I have played at this number also and skipped my regular position as well. So, it doesn't make a big difference to me, it is about reading the situation and playing according to it.”
