Indian batting superstar batter Virat Kohli has said that the team wants to create new memories for the Indian fans in the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The tournament will be played in India from October 5 onwards.
India last hosted the World Cup back in 2011 and had won the tournament then. However, since the Champions Trophy win in 2013, the Men in Blue side have not won any ICC title despite making it into the finals of both World Test Championships and knock out stages of 2015 and 2019 World Cups and 2016 and 2022 T20 World Cups.
India will begin their World Cup 2023 campaign on October 8 against Australia in Chennai.
Virat Kohli said the memories of the 2011 World Cup are etched in their hearts but they want to create new memories for the fans this year.
“The passion and unwavering support of our fans is what fuels our determination to win the World Cup. The memories of past World Cup victories, especially the iconic 2011 win, are etched in our hearts, and we want to create new memories for our fans.
I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible campaign which perfectly captures the emotions of our fans, and we're ready to give it our all to make their dreams come true,” said Kohli on Star Sports.
India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja said the team is determined to make the fans proud with their performances on the field.
“As a cricketer, there's nothing more motivating than knowing that millions of fans are standing behind you, cheering for your success. This campaign reflects the deep passion and obsession of our fans to see Team India win. It’s a journey we're embarking on together with the entire nation, and we're determined to make our fans proud with our performances on the field,” said Jadeja.
The semi-finals will be played in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16, with the final scheduled to be played in Ahmedabad on November 19.
