India batting legend and Bharat Ratna recipient Sachin Tendulkar was presented with a ‘Golden Ticket’ for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah.
The 50-year-old, who is one of the greatest cricketers the world has ever seen, is the second person after the legend of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan, to have received the golden ticket for the global cricket spectacle beginning next month.
In the first match of the ODI World Cup 2023, the defending champions England will be taking on New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5.
India will open their World Cup campaign against Australia in Chennai on October 8 and will play Pakistan in Ahmedabad on October 14.
BCCI took to the social media platform ‘X’ to post a photo of Shah presenting the ‘Golden Ticket’ to Tendulkar.
“An iconic moment for cricket and the nation! As part of our "Golden Ticket for India Icons" program, BCCI Honorary Secretary @JayShah presented the golden ticket to Bharat Ratna Shri @sachin_rt. A symbol of cricketing excellence and national pride, Sachin Tendulkar's journey has inspired generations. Now, he'll be part of the @ICC @cricketworldcup 2023, witnessing the action LIVE,” posted BCCI.
Sachin Tendulkar was elated on receiving the golden ticket for the World Cup and quoted BCCI’s post showing gratitude for their gesture.
He posted: “From serving in the 1987 World Cup as a ball boy to competing in six World Cups from 1992 to 2011, and now receiving this golden ticket in 2023 – it has indeed been a journey woven from dreams and the excitement within me remains undiminished. Thank You @ICC and @BCCI”
