CWC 2023: Netherlands include Roelof van der Merwe in their 15-member squad for ICC World Cup

Netherlands will play Pakistan in Hyderabad on October 6 in their CWC 2023 opening match.

Netherlands | GettyThe Netherlands, on September 7, announced its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 tournament which will be played in India from October 5 onwards. The Dutch side has included the experienced all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe in the squad as well.

Netherlands qualified for the ICC World Cup 2023 via a runner-up finish at the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament and will be captained in the mega event by Scott Edwards.

Apart from Van der Merwe, Netherlands have also recalled Colin Ackermann to boost the experience in the side. Both of them were not part of the squad that played in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.

However, they were part of the Dutch squad that participated in the T20 World Cup 2022 where Ackermann was the Netherlands' second-leading run scorer at the competition, and van der Merwe had some useful cameos with the bat, the ball, and in the field.

Bas de Leede is expected to play a significant role with both the bat and the ball, and the Netherlands will be hoping that opening hitter Max O'Dowd can contribute a lot of runs throughout the tournament.

The Netherlands will play two warm-up games before the World Cup 2023 against Australia on September 30 and the hosts India on October 3.

Their first encounter in the ICC World Cup 2023 will be against Pakistan in Hyderabad on October 6.
