India spin-bowler Ravichandran Ashwin has hailed wicket-keeping batter Ishan Kishan’s versatility, saying he is a two-in-one player. Kishan has been picked in India’s 15-member ICC Men’s ODI World Cup 2023 squad.
Ashwin said there was no competition for the World Cup spot between Sanju Samson and Kishan since Kishan fills so many roles. Kishan and KL Rahul will be the two keeper-batters in the Indian squad for the World Cup 2023.
“This is not a competition between Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson, because Kishan fills so many roles. When you pick a 15-member squad, you need to pick a backup wicketkeeper. Even when we pick a Ranji Trophy squad, we pick two wicket-keepers,” said Ashwin on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin called Kishan a two-in-one player saying that he’ll provide India with two left-handed options in the middle order, along with Ravindra Jadeja.
“Ishan Kishan is also a backup opener along with being a back-up wicket-keeper, he is a two-in-one player. Now that Ishan Kishan has succeeded at Number 5, it gives India two left-handers in the middle order. Everyone was going gaga over left-handers and they were saying Ishan Kishan cannot bat at No.5, but he has delivered now,” Ashwin added.
The last time India hosted the World Cup was in 2011 and had won the tournament and the Indian team fans will hope for the same result this time around as well.
