CWC 2023: 'Missed out as president'- Sourav Ganguly’s emotional tweet after World Cup 2023 schedule announced

During Ganguly's tenure, India was supposed to host T20 World Cup 2021 at home.

ICC ODI World Cup | GettyFormer BCCI president Sourav Ganguly posted an emotional tweet after the schedule for the ICC World Cup 2023 (CWC 2023), to be held in India was revealed yesterday.

India will be hosting the ODI World Cup in its entirety for the first time and would have also hosted the T20 World Cup solely for the second time in 2021 if not for the COVID pandemic.

Ganguly, after serving as the chairman of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), became the 35th BCCI president in October of 2019, shortly after the 2019 World Cup in England. While he was at the helm, India was to host the 2021 T20 World Cup at home but had to move the tournament to UAE after a possibility of a third wave due to the Delta variant.

The former BCCI president, under whose reign India unfortunately couldn't host the World Cup two years ago, seemed pretty excited by the preparations, but at the same time, his message had a bit of an emotional touch.

"Look forward to the World Cup in India. Missed out as president due to Covid. What a spectacle it will be. Great venues, great allocations. So many venues no country can boast of. BCCI will make it a tournament to remember for the world. Congratulations to all @BCCI, @jayshah, @RogerBinnyBCCI, and all the other office bearers and staff," Ganguly tweeted.

Ganguly was ousted as the BCCI President in 2022 with Roger Binny replacing him at the helm.
