However, the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated on Friday that they are assessing the team's World Cup participation. The publication of the World Cup schedule has also been delayed due to the uncertainty surrounding Pakistan's participation in the tournament.

We have received the official invitation from the Indian prime minister to our prime minister for the virtual meeting of the heads of state of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation that is due to take place on the 4th of July,Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a spokesperson of the Pakistan Ministry of Foreign Affairs was quoted as saying by ESPNCricinfo.

BCCI invites fresh applications for the post of national selector ahead of West Indies tour

Pakistan will be represented at the summit. We will be announcing our participation in the coming days.

Regarding cricket, Pakistan is of the view that politics should not be mixed with sports. India’s policy of not playing cricket in Pakistan is disappointing. We are observing and evaluating all aspects relating to our participation in the World Cup including the security situation for Pakistani cricketers and we will offer our views to PCB in due course,” she added.

Pakistan’s participation in the World Cup is subject to approval by their government.

As per the draft schedule of the World Cup, Pakistan is set to play India on October 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The PCB had already stated that they didn’t want to play in Ahmedabad.

Other than that, PCB had requested the ICC and BCCI to change their venues for two group matches, as they didn’t want to play Afghanistan in Chennai and Australia in Bengaluru and wanted to swap these venues.

However, both the ICC and the BCCI have reportedly rejected this request.
