IPL 2023: “Go on and lead the next generation,” Virat Kohli showers rich compliment on Shubman Gill

Kohli's praise came after Gill slammed his maiden IPL hundred against SRH.

Shubman Gill | BCCI-IPLGujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill put on a show with the bat in his team’s comprehensive 34-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday (May 15).

Invited to bat first, GT lost Wriddhiman Saha for a three-ball duck. However, Gill added 147 runs for the second wicket with Sai Sudharsan (47 off 36 balls) to put the hosts in a commanding position.

Gill was the aggressor in the partnership as he completed his half-century in just 22 balls. While the defending champions kept losing wickets at regular intervals, Shubman held the one end firmly and notched up his maiden IPL hundred in the penultimate over off 56 balls.

Shubman Gill eventually got out in the last delivery of the 19th over after scoring 101 off 57 balls, propelling the Titans to 188/9 in 20 overs. His knock was studded with 13 fours and 1 six.

A day after the game, former India skipper Virat Kohli, who plays for RCB in the IPL, lauded Shubman Gill’s magical display with the willow.

Taking to Instagram, Kohli shared a story, in which he posted Gill’s picture with the caption, “There’s potential and then there’s gill. Go on and lead the next generation. God bless you @shubmangill”.

Talking about Shubman Gill, he has taken the cricketing world by storm with his stunning exploits in 2023. The stylish right-hander has already slammed five international centuries this year, including a double ton in ODIs against New Zealand.

In the ongoing IPL season, Gill is placed second on the list of highest run-getter with 576 runs from 13 innings at a strike rate of 146.19, including one hundred and four half-centuries.
