In preparation for the 2027 ICC Men's ODI World Cup, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started creating a structured roadmap. According to secretary Devajit Saikia, the board would make sure the national squad has enough practice in 50-over matches.
Speaking in Guwahati, Saikia stated that the BCCI is developing a comprehensive plan for the October–November 2027 World Cup. This long-term planning process involves the head coach, support personnel, and selectors.
In order to make sure that India is ready for the international tournament, he continued, planning is taking place in cooperation with the team management and selectors.
"The BCCI is planning a clear path leading up to the 2027 ODI World Cup. We will have enough ODI matches between now and the start of the tournament in October 2027. We have announced the team for the three ODI matches in England, scheduled from 14th to 19th July. The selectors are on board with the support staff and the head coach," Saikia stated as per ANI.
The first men's ICC competition in Africa since 2003 will take place at the 2027 ODI World Cup. Nonetheless, the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2009 Champions Trophy, and the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup were all held in South Africa.
Namibia and Zimbabwe had recently co-hosted the U19 Men's World Cup as well.
After having 10 teams in the previous two editions, the competition will now have 14 teams. Teams will be split into two groups of seven, with the top three from each group moving on to the Super Six round.
South Africa and Zimbabwe, as Full Members, automatically qualify, while Namibia must go through the qualification process.
