Prior to their planned meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, the Indian women's cricket team arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday to a hero's welcome following their historic victory in the ICC Women's World Cup 2025.
India Women defeated South Africa Women in the final of the World Cup, which was played in Navi Mumbai on November 2. India batted first and posted 298/7 in 50 overs, with Shafali Verma making 87 and Deepti Sharma making 58.
South Africa’s chase was led by Laura Wolvaardt, who scored 101, but 5/39 from Deepti Sharma and two wickets by Shafali Verma blew away South Africa’s middle order as they were bundled for 246 runs. India won the final by 52 runs and became the ICC Women’s World Champions for the first time.
When the team, led by captain Harmanpreet Kaur, arrived at their hotel in the capital, they were greeted with joy. Fans and hotel employees welcomed India's first-ever women's World Cup-winning team with cheers, fireworks, and music.
