The Indian team defeated Pakistan in the final of the Asian Games 2026 men’s cricket event and won the gold medal on October 3, 2026. This game was played in Nisshin, where Sri Lanka earlier defeated Bangladesh to win the bronze medal.
In the game, India won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a total score of 211/6 in 20 overs, with Abhishek Sharma (61) and Tilak Varma (51*) scoring the most runs. In reply to this, Hasan Nawaz came out to be the main man who chased for Pakistan and scored 96 runs with 7 sixes and 5 fours.
However, in spite of him doing that, the Men in Green were able to get 192/6 in 20 overs. This was the second time India won the gold medal in men's cricket at the Asian Games.
However, there was no shortage of drama in the match, especially after Saim Ayub got rid of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for 15 runs off 9 balls in the third over of the game.
The teenager had played some good cricket and looked capable of taking charge of the match. However, Ayub did not let him continue and gave Pakistan an early advantage.
Immediately after getting Sooryavanshi out with the reverse sweep shot, Ayub appeared to ridicule the teen by doing the "baby cradle" gesture.
While the young cricketer didn't react and went back to the dressing room, Ayub's gesture has not gone down well in Pakistan, with Kamran Akmal criticizing the all-rounder for it.
The topic of the send-off to Sooryavanshi was started by the anchor during a discussion, saying, “Did you see that action? How unfortunate is that? You are playing such good cricket. You are giving India competition after such a long time. These things don't look good.”
Replying to this on the ‘Game Plan’ YouTube show, Akmal replied, “These things have been happening for a long time. Our performance hasn't been great, but we are doing things for social media. The management should think about this. It's international cricket. No matter whether he is 13, 14, or 15, he's playing international cricket. Saim Ayub is not a kid. He should focus on his performances.”
Saim Ayub had done well with the bat, scoring 29 runs with 2 fours and one six in 22 balls, aiding Hasan Nawaz as he gave India a good run for their money.
