Asian Games 2026: WATCH- Sanju Samson’s brilliant one-handed catch off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling as India demolish Sri Lanka

India will now face Pakistan in the final of Asian Games 2026 cricket event for the gold medal.

India defeated Sri Lanka by 124 runs in Asian Games semis | BCCIThe Indian team and Sri Lanka clashed in the second semi-final of the ongoing Asian Games 2026 at the Korogi Sports Park, Nisshin, on October 1, 2026. Pakistan had defeated Bangladesh in the first semi-final earlier in the day to qualify for the gold medal match.

Sri Lanka captain Sahan Arachchige won the toss and chose to bowl first. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi gave a strong start with 38 off 21 balls, while Abhishek Sharma (7), Sanju Samson (7), and Shreyas Iyer (13) struggled on a pitch that favoured spinners.

It was Ishan Kishan who shouldered the Indian innings, scoring a brilliant 80* in 46 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes as India posted 169/7 in 20 overs.

Many anticipated that Sri Lanka would make a strong effort to chase this target, despite India's top-notch bowling attack. However, Jasprit Bumrah quickly disrupted the chase in the first over. He dismissed Sineth Jayawardena on the second ball of the over, trapping him LBW for a duck.

Three balls later, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Sohan de Livera for a duck as well. But keeper Sanju Samson took an excellent catch. De Livera edged the ball towards the slips, but the ball moved away from keeper Samson’s left side and dipped towards the ground.

Samson made the dive and plucked the catch in one hand just inches before it touched the ground, and Sri Lanka had a poor start to the innings.

Sri Lanka’s innings was a procession of wickets coming and going back. Nuwanidu Fernando was the only one to get into double figures, scoring 15 runs, and as many as three players were run out in unneeded urgency.

Sri Lanka got bowled out for 45 runs in 9.5 overs, and India won the semis by 124 runs. Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Abhishek Sharma picked two wickets each, and India qualified for the gold medal match, where they will face Pakistan in the final on October 3.
