Director of the Center of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman will coach the Indian team at the upcoming Asian Games 2026 in Japan’s Aichi and Nagoya prefectures. The cricket events for both men’s and women’s teams will be played from 17 September to 3 October 2026. Korogi Sports Park will host all cricket games.
According to the Sports Ministry's list of coaches, Sunil Joshi, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and Subhadeep Ghosh will join Laxman. The squad won gold in the 2023 edition of the competition in Hangzhou, China, under the leadership of the former Indian batter.
During the home ODI series against the West Indies, the senior team will travel with regular head coach Gautam Gambhir.
On September 27, the first ODI against the Windies will start. India will play its first match four days after the Asian Games' cricket discipline kicks off on September 24.
On the other hand, the Indian women’s team will be coached by Amol Muzumdar, who had won the gold medal under the guidance of Hrishikesh Kanitkar. Muzumdar will be joined by bowling coach Aavishkar Salvi and fielding coach Munish Bali.
The men's squad will play the second-place team from Group A, which consists of Afghanistan, Japan, and Nepal, while the Indian women's team will start their campaign against Japan in the quarterfinals.
