India thrashed Pakistan by 228 runs in the Asia Cup Super-4 match | GettyIndia have moved up to the second position in the ICC ODI team rankings, ahead of Pakistan, which lost the numero uno spot following their elimination from the Asia Cup 2023.

The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team will take on co-host Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup final in Colombo on Sunday (September 17).

The Babar Azam-led side suffered a crushing 228-run defeat at the hands of India before losing to Sri Lanka in a last-ball thriller in the Super-4 around to be knocked out of the continental event. As a result, the Men in Green slipped two places to No. 3 with 115 rating points in the updated rankings.

Australia have reclaimed the top spot by beating South Africa in the first two games of the ongoing five-ODI series.

While Australia won the first ODI by three wickets, they lost the second match by 123 runs against South Africa. However, the Proteas bounced back to win the third ODI by 111 runs.

Australia are occupying the pole position with 118 rating points whereas the second-placed Indian team is two points behind them.

Both teams are due to square off in a three-match ODI series in India later this month ahead of their World Cup opener at Chepauk on October 8.
