Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi on Sunday (September 10) displayed a classy gesture as he presented a gift to India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and congratulated him on becoming a father
Notably, Bumrah and his wife Sanjana Ganesan were blessed with a baby on September 4. The right-arm quick flew back from Sri Lanka to Mumbai a day before India’s Asia Cup 2023 clash against Nepal to attend the birth of his first child.
In a video shared by PCB on social media platform X, Shaheen can be seen coming out with a red-coloured gift-wrapped box and handed it over to Bumrah.
The left-arm pacer congratulated Bumrah and wished good health and happiness for the India star's newborn baby.
Bumrah was moved by the classy gesture and called it 'very sweet'. He later shared a heartwarming exchange with Shaheen on X.
Shaheen quoted PCB’s post and wrote: “Love and peace. Congratulations @Jaspritbumrah93 and family on the birth of your child. Prayers for the entire family. We battle on the field. Off the field we are just your regular humans.”
In reply, Bumrah wrote: “Beautiful gesture, my family and I are overwhelmed with the love! Best wishes always. @iShaheenAfridi”
The interaction between Shaheen and Bumrah took place on the day of the Asia Cup 2023 Super-4 clash between India and Pakistan.
Talking about the match, Babar Azam won the toss and opted to bowl first but the decision backfired as Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill took the Pakistan attack to the cleaners. The duo stitched a 121-run partnership to set the foundation of India’s massive total.
While Rohit was dismissed for 49-ball 56, Gill departed after scoring 58. Virat Kohli (8*) and KL Rahul (17*) were trying to rebuild when the heavens opened up and the play was called off for the day, with India at 147/2 in 24.2 overs.
There is a reserve day in place for this game and the play will resume on Monday (September 11).
