Binny and Shukla expected to watch the Asia Cup 2023 encounter on Tuesday in Lahore | XBCCI president Roger Binny along with vice-president Rajiv Shukla entered Pakistan via the Wagah Border to watch a match of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 tournament in Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium on September 4.

Both the dignitaries of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are expected to watch the Asia Cup encounter in Lahore on Tuesday which will see Afghanistan take on Sri Lanka. On Wednesday, Pakistan is expected to play Bangladesh in the first Super 4s encounter in Lahore as well.

Binny and Shukla are traveling to Pakistan after an invitation was extended to the members of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and other cricket boards by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to attend the mega event.

Shukla made it clear that their two-day visit was not for political reasons but purely cricket.

"This two-day visit is purely from the point of view of cricket, nothing political, a dinner has been hosted and three teams will be there - Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh,” he was quoted by ANI.

While Binny, who is making his first visit to Pakistan since 2006 is looking forward to it and said, "I am looking forward to my visit since we've been to Colombo to see matches in Sri Lanka."

When asked about why the Indian team did not tour Pakistan for the tournament and the future possibility of such a tour, Rajeev Shukla said: "We will go by the advice of the government, whatever the government decides we will do that."

This is the first trip a BCCI president is making to Pakistan since India broke their bilateral cricket relationship in the wake of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
