Asia Cup 2023: Dilshan Madushanka joins Sri Lanka’s ever growing injury list- Report

Sri Lanka are already missing Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara in pace department.

Dilshan Madushanka | GettyAhead of the Asia Cup 2023, the Sri Lankan team management might scamper to compile a 17-member squad after 4 of their players are in doubt due to injury and 2 are recovering from Covid, with pacer Dilshan Madushanka latest to join the list.

Already, Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara are likely to be ruled out of Asia Cup 2023 due to injuries, while spinner Wanindu Hasaranga is also in doubt to play given his thigh injury he got in the Lanka Premier League.

Chameera sustained a pectoral injury during the recent LPL 2023, while Kumara is suffering from a side strain.

And now Madushanka sustained a torn oblique muscle during a practice match last Friday, casting doubts on his ability to recover in time for the upcoming World Cup and most likely ruling him out of the Asia Cup.

Arjuna de Silva, the Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket's medical committee, expressed concerns over Madushanka's fitness status as he strives to regain his form.

As Chameera, Kumara, and Madushanka were their quickest pacers – and the ones who helped Sri Lanka reign supreme in the World Cup Qualifiers, Sri Lanka would have to rely on Kasun Rajitha, Pramod Madushan, and Matheesha Pathirana.

As for the spinners, Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana might get support from Dushan Hemantha, if he is called up to replace Hasaranga.

Sri Lanka begin their Asia Cup campaign against Bangladesh on Thursday.
