Ever since his emergence as Pakistan's best batter across formats, Babar Azam has been widely compared with his more experienced Indian counterpart Virat Kohli.
Thanks to his consistency in recent years, the Pakistan skipper is currently holding a numero uno position in the ICC ODI Rankings, third in T20I and fourth in Test cricket.
On the other hand, Kohli is now back to scoring runs consistently after enduring an extended lean patch. He has slammed two centuries each in Tests and ODIs this year so far besides a couple of tons in the IPL 2023 season for RCB.
Ahead of the Asia Cup 2023, former Australia all-rounder Tom Moody has said that Babar reminds him of Kohli as both of them have similar approach towards the game.
“I think absolutely he is. He does remind me very much of Virat Kohli, the way he goes about his business. He plays authentic cricket shots. He seems to understand, read the game very well, which Kohli has done for over a decade. He is a good chaser as well, like Virat Kohli has proven to be over many, many years," Moody said on Star Sports.
Tom Moody found it tough to pick who is going to have a better Asia Cup between the two ace batters.
“So, there’s so much likeness between the two and I wouldn’t go as far as saying that Virat is gonna have a better Asia Cup than Babar Azam, but they both can have equal pressure on them and it’s gonna be a delight to watch them both bat because they are box office,” he added.
India and Pakistan are due to square off in the upcoming Asia Cup in Pallekele on September 2. If the two teams qualify for the Super-4 stage, they will lock horns again on September 10 in Colombo while reaching the final would put them against each other for the third time in the competition on September 17.
