Asia Cup 2022: 'Meherbaan badi der ki aate aate'- Inzamam Ul Haq praises Virat Kohli after his maiden T20I ton

Inzamam felt that Kohli's return to form will help India going forward.

Virat Kohli became the 4th Indian to score centuries in all three international formats | GettyVirat Kohli finally scored a century in international cricket after more than 1000 days without a triple-figure score. He scored his maiden T20I century in the Asia Cup 2022 match against Afghanistan and broke a host of records.

Kohli made 122* in 61 balls with 12 fours and 6 sixes, breaking Rohit Sharma’s record of 118 for the highest T20I score by an Indian batter. Though India crashed out of the tournament in the Super 4s stage. Kohli returning to form was the biggest news for the Indian fans, as he has also scored two half-centuries as well.

Several current and former players heaped praise on the ace Indian batter for rediscovering his lost mojo. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam Ul Haq also lauded Kohli’s terrific ton but mentioned that it came a bit late as India was already out of the Asia Cup 2022.

Meherbaan badi der ki aate aate (It came a bit too late). The kind of form and performance that everyone was expecting from India was on display against Afghanistan. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli batted really well, and that aggression in their game was evident,” Inzamam said in his YouTube video.

“But it was a bit too late as it did not help their cause with regard to progressing further in the tournament,” he added.

Virat Kohli had not scored an international century since November 2019 and had been battling terrible batting form across formats and even in the IPL 2022 as well where he managed three first-ball ducks.

But Inzamam said that Kohli’s return to form was good news for India in coming matches, as he will help the Men in Blue win matches going forward.

It is definitely good news for India that Kohli scored a hundred after more than a thousand days. His form is crucial for India to win matches going forward. Kohli himself will be relieved and will be much more relaxed now.

One thing that I noticed during the tournament was that the Indians were under a lot of pressure. Against big teams in tough conditions, quality teams come out with stronger performances; they don’t struggle. If India continues to underperform this way in crunch games, it won’t be good news for them. Things are only bound to get difficult,” Inzamam said.

Kohli is expected to be seen in upcoming T20I series at home against Australia.
