Even though India didn't advance to the Asia Cup 2022 finals, fans had enough reason to celebrate as their most beloved cricketer Virat Kohli ended his century drought.

On Wednesday (September 08), in a dead rubber against Afghanistan came the elusive 71st international century off Kohli's bat, after a wait of 1020 days.

Opening the innings, he remained unbeaten on 122 off 61 balls, which included 12 fours and 6 sixes.

Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar believes the 33-year-old will continue to rack up hundreds in T20Is in the future.

"Look, anybody who has got 70 hundred, there wasn’t any monkey on his back. With 70 hundred, he knows what he is capable of. The only thing is, this was his first hundred in the ultra-short format of the game. Don’t be surprised if we see more hundreds from him in the T20I format of the game as he goes along," he told India Today.

"Any batter when he is expected to get hundreds when he doesn’t a century, people start to wonder. Even in this period, look at the number of 50s, 70s, and 80s he got. It wasn’t like he wasn’t getting runs at all, he was getting them, but he was also not quite able to go from that to getting to a hundred," he added.

Virat's magnificent innings helped Team India register a massive 212/2 in 20 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled an immaculate 4-over spell in the second innings, taking 5 wickets while only giving away 4 runs.

The Men in Blue eventually emerged victorious by a huge margin of 101 runs.

Rohit Sharma and his men will next take on Australia in a three-match T20I series at home, starting September 20.
