Asia Cup 2022: WATCH – “Discussed India yesterday all day long,” Wasim Akram annoyed by anchor’s question on Team India

Wasim was asked about the Indian team in the pre-match show of Pakistan versus Afghanistan clash.

Wasim Akram and Mayanti Langer | ScreengrabWidely regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, Wasim Akram on Wednesday (September 7) was left annoyed after sports presenter Mayanti Langer asked him questions about the Indian team in the pre-match show of Pakistan versus Afghanistan Asia Cup Super-4 clash at Sharjah.

Since Star Sports are an India-based channel, they usually discuss things around Indian cricket and its players. However, they also happen to be the official broadcasters of the Asia Cup 2022. So, Akram was visibly irritated when Mayanti started the pre-match show by discussing India's woes in the ongoing Asia Cup instead of talking about the Afghanistan-Pakistan encounter.

In a video going viral on social media, the pace-bowling legend was seen passing on the question to fellow commentator and former India batter Sanjay Manjreker.

He further took a dig at the broadcasters, saying even India skipper Rohit Sharma must be 'sick' of seeing himself on TV throughout the day.

Here’s how the conversation between Mayanti Langer and Wasim Akram panned out:

Mayanti Langer: "They lost a lot of wickets, so you are not (reaching the death overs) with wickets in hand. Are you gonna continue with this to the World Cup?"

Wasim Akram: "All yours Sanjay!"

Mayanti Langer: "No Wasim, I wanna hear what you wanna say."

Wasim Akram: "Rohit Sharma is probably sick watching himself on TV. Two other teams are playing. I discussed India yesterday all day long. Today is Pakistan vs Afghanistan. That's why I am saying, Sanjay all yours."

Notably, Team India suffered two successive defeats at the hands of Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super-4 stage and were knocked out of the Asia Cup 2022.

On the other hand, Pakistan secured their place in the final with a thrilling one-wicket win over Afghanistan on Wednesday. The Babar Azam-led side will now face Sri Lanka in the summit clash on September 11.
