Amid the reports doing the rounds that injured Ravindra Jadeja will miss the upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia, India head coach Rahul Dravid on Saturday (September 3) said that the all-rounder’s injury is yet to be assessed and so it can’t be said with certainty if he has been ruled out of the showpiece event.
Earlier, the reports had claimed that Jadeja will undergo a major knee surgery, which is expected to keep him out of action for an indefinite period of time and he will possibly miss the T20 World Cup 2022, slated to get underway on October 16.
Jadeja on Friday (September 2) got ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022 with a knee injury, having played the first two games against Pakistan and Hong Kong. He provides the team a much-needed balance with his all-round abilities.
"Jadeja, he has injured his knee. Obviously he is ruled out for the Asia Cup. He's under the care of the medical team, he has gone to see the doctors, he has gone to see the experts," Dravid said in a press conference on the eve of India's Asia Cup Super 4 clash against Pakistan.
"The World Cup is a fair way away, so we don't want to jump to any conclusions and rule him out or rule him in. We'll see how it goes," he went on to say. It's part of sports. People get injured. It's part of our job to try and manage them, manage how it goes," he added.
"A lot will depend on the rehab and the severity of the injury. We'll see how it goes. I don't want to rule him out or make too many comments until we have a much clearer picture and we have a better idea. Specially the World Cup is 6-7 weeks away now," he further stated.
Ravindra Jadeja was in good touch with both bat and ball in the group stage of the Asia Cup 2022. The southpaw played a key role in India’s thrilling five-wicket win over Pakistan in their tournament opener, scoring 35 runs while batting at No. 4.
Against Hong Kong, he didn’t get an opportunity to bat but returned with the bowling figures of 1/15 in his four overs and also affected a brilliant run-out as the Men in Blue emerged victorious by 40 runs.
