Pakistan has likely suffered yet another injury setback, as their pacer, Mohammad Wasim reportedly complained of back pain, ahead of their opening clash against India in the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 on Sunday (August 28) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, UAE.

The Babar Azam-led Pakistan team is already without their key pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is dealing with a knee injury, and now this report may leave them without a able pace attack as Hassan Ali was not picked for this multi-nation event.

According to a report in ESPNCricinfo, Mohammad Wasim complained of pain in his lower back during a training session at the ICC Academy in Dubai on Thursday (August 25), which is not really a good sign for the Men in Green, especially keeping in mind the big clash with India on Sunday.

After complaining of back pain, the right-arm pacer underwent an MRI scan, which ESPNCricinfo suggested was a precautionary one. However, PCB and the team management have not yet commented on Wasim’s situation.

Wasim has so far featured in 11 T20Is since his debut last July against West Indies. He has picked up 17 wickets at an average of 15.88 and an economy of 8.10.

Notably, Pakistan had recently announced Mohammad Hasnain as Afridi’s replacement for the Asia Cup 2022 after the star pacer was ruled out of the T20 tournament.

Pakistan squad for Asia Cup 2022:

Babar Azam (c), Shadab Khan (VC), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haider Ali, Haris Rauf, Iftikhar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Rizwan (WK), Mohammad Wasim, Naseem Shah, Shahnawaz Dahani, Usman Qadir, Mohammad Hasnain.
