Asia Cup 2022: Jasprit Bumrah set to be ruled out of Asia Cup after suffering back injury – Report

Bumrah was last seen in action in the ODI series against England last month.

Jasprit Bumrah | GettyAhead of the Asia Cup 2022, Team India have reportedly suffered a big blow as pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is likely to be ruled out of the multi-nation tournament.

According to a PTI report, Bumrah has sustained a back injury, which would require some time to heal.

The Asia Cup 2022, in a T20I format, is scheduled to be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11 while the Indian squad is due to be picked on Monday (August 8).

"Jasprit Bumrah has a back injury and will not play in the Asia Cup. He is our main bowler and we would like him to be back in action before T20 World Cup. We can't risk him in Asia Cup and the injury could aggravate," a senior BCCI official told PTI on the condition of anonymity.

Bumrah was last seen in action in the ODI series against England last month. The speedster was rested from the just-concluded white-ball tour of West Indies and hasn’t been picked in the squad for the upcoming ODI series against Zimbabwe as well.

As per the report, the back injury will keep him on the sidelines for a considerable period and he will need to do rehabilitation work at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru before being deemed fit for the limited-overs against Australia and South Africa at home in September-October.

Bumrah had faced similar issues back in 2019 and was out of action for some time. His injury is a setback for the Indian team as he would have wanted to play more matches before flying to Australia for the T20 World Cup in October-November.
