Injured Harshal Patel set to miss Asia Cup 2022, doubtful for upcoming T20 World Cup: Report

Harshal is suffering from a side strain that could sideline him from consideration.

Harshal Patel | GettyTeam India might have to deal with a major blow as pacer Harshal Patel will most certainly miss the upcoming Asia Cup and won’t be a likely starter in the T20 World Cup 2022.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Harshal, who is known for his variations, is suffering from a side strain that could sideline him from consideration.

The Asia Cup 2022, in a T20I format, is slated to be held in the UAE from August 27 to September 11 while India’s squad is expected to be announced on August 8.

While Harshal is part of India's squad for the ongoing five-match T20I series against the West Indies, he has not played the first three games and will miss the last two matches in Florida on August 6 and August 7 respectively.

As per the report, the side strain has also put Harshal Patel’s participation in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia from October 16 to November 13, in jeopardy since the injury needs four to six weeks of rest and rehab.

His World Cup chances reportedly depend on his recovery and he will check into the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after returning from the West Indies tour.

Harshal’s absence might benefit pace-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar, who has been out of the team since February due to injuries and is set to make his India comeback in the upcoming Zimbabwe tour.
