Bangladesh created history by winning the second Test of the two-match series against Pakistan by 6 wickets on the final day on September 3, 2024. With this victory, Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan for the first time in Test history.

After winning the first Test, also at Rawalpindi by 10 wickets, Bangladesh came into the second Test with more confidence. Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh captain won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Pakistan managed 274 runs despite being 107/1 at one stage. Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, and Shan Masood starred with half-centuries to their names. On the other hand, Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked a five-wicket haul for Bangladesh.

Then Khurram Shahzad (6/90) and Mir Hamza blew away the Bangladeshi batting lineup leaving them 26/6 at one stage. However, poor captaincy by Shan Masood let Bangladesh recover with Litton Das scoring 138 and Mehidy Hasan Miraz scoring 78 runs. Their 165-run partnership for the 8th wicket took Bangladesh to 262 runs, reducing the first-innings deficit to 12 runs.

Pakistan fared no better in their second innings, putting up only 174 runs on the board. Salman Ali Agha made 47 and Mohammad Rizwan made 43 runs. For Bangladesh, Hasan Mahmud picked a fifer, while Nahid Rana scalped 4 wickets.

Set 185 runs to win, Bangladesh wiped off 47 runs at stumps on day four itself. Though openers Shadman Islam and Zakir Hasan got out early, Captain Shanto (38), Mominul Haque (34), Mushfiqur Rahim (22*), and Shakib Al Hasan (21*) ensured that Bangladesh reached the target with 6 wickets in hand.

With this brilliant win, Bangladesh cleanly swept Pakistan for the first time in a Test series in their history. Litton Das was named the Player of the Match for his 138, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz was named Player of the Series for 155 runs and 10 wickets in the two Tests.

The cricket fraternity was elated to see Bangladesh achieving this historic feat and lauded them on social media. They also showed concern for the constant downfall of Pakistan cricket after this drubbing.
