Bairstow picked the protestor and carried him off the field at Lord's | GettyIn what can only be described as one of the funniest instances on a cricket field, England keeper Jonny Bairstow was seen lifting a protestor who interrupted the first day of the second Ashes 2023 Test against Australia at Lord’s and escorted him outside the boundary ropes.

England captain Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to bowl in the second Ashes Test at Lord's on Wednesday as Australia recalled Mitchell Starc to their side.

At the start of the second Test at Lord’s the play had to be halted for a few minutes as a couple of protestors invaded the pitch and threw orange power paint on the ground. The commentators guessed that they were part of the 'Just Stop Oil' movement and that they have carried out these protests on various other occasions.

However, the funny part came when Jonny Bairstow, seemingly fed up with antics, picked one protestor up in his armpit and escorted him out of the ground with security personnel running after him.

The England international got some paint on his kit and had to rush back to the dressing room to change them. The ground staff quickly cleaned up the ground and the match resumed without any problem.

When Bairstow returned to the pitch, he was applauded by both England and Australia cricketers.

Meanwhile, India off-spinner R Ashwin decided to spice things up a bit more by tweeting: “Good start to the 2nd test. Bairstow has done some heavy lifting already
