England head coach Brendon McCullum hailed Ben Stokes’ captaincy after the Three Lions recorded a historic 3-0 win over Pakistan in a Test series on Tuesday (December 20) in Karachi. England defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the third Test to sweep the three-match Test series in Karachi.
The high-risk "Bazball" approach has so far proved beneficial for England, as they have now won 9 out of their 10 Test matches since McCullum and Stokes took over the charge of the team.
After England became the first Test side to complete a 3-0 whitewash in Pakistan, McCullum said that removing the fear of failure has helped the talent in his team come through.
Brendon McCullum told Sky Sports: “The side is very much in the image of the skipper. He wants the guys to go out there and play with as much freedom as they can. He has identified that taking away that pressure and fear of failure allows talent to come out. And what we have seen over the last seven to eight months is that skill and talent is not in question with this England side.”
Before this tour, England had won only two Tests in Pakistan, and McCullum said that he was "incredibly proud" of his team for enjoying success in the subcontinent after touring the country for 17 years.
He also lauded the 18-year-old Rehan Ahmed, who became the youngest bowler to take a five-wicket haul on his Test debut.
McCullum signed off by saying, “He's got a real future. He's been on the radar for English cricket. It took some courage from Stokes to thrust him into this side. The more we're willing to do that, the better for us.”
