Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell, is hoping to get a place in Australia’s playing XI in the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, starting on June 29 in Galle, after being recalled to the Test side after five years on June 23 (Thursday).

The all-rounder made his Test debut in 2013 and has so far played only 7 Tests – all in sub-continent conditions, with his last appearance coming against Bangladesh in 2017.

Maxwell was added as a cover in Australia's squad for the Test series against Sri Lanka, as Travis Head is currently recovering from a minor hamstring strain. Maxwell, a big-hitter and handy off-spinner, is hoping to get an opportunity to play in Sri Lanka, given his record in the sub-continent.

Maxwell revealed his first baggy green cap is completely disintegrated and he would need a new one in Sri Lanka, “I'm glad I didn't bring it because it has completely disintegrated, so I'm going to have to get a new one for this Test tour. I took it out last year and had a look at it, it was deteriorating and I thought that wasn't a good sign. My wife took it out yesterday and said, 'I don't think I can bring this.'”

The 33-year-old all-rounder added, “I think I bring a lot of experience playing in these sorts of conditions and be able to tackle good spin bowling in tough conditions.”

Maxwell also stressed that playing in the IPL for RCB prepared him pitches that help spinners immensely. Explaining the same, the all-rounder said: “I think training in IPL so regularly... being in a bubble during IPL really helped, because there was no travel, so we had more time for training sessions.”

He signed off by saying, “Training wickets were extremely tired, they were spinning big, they were inconsistent and it was brilliant practice. That helped me coming into this series.”
