New Zealand has yet suffered another setback on their ongoing England tour, as their star batter, Devon Conway, tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday (June 16).

New Zealand has already lost the three-match Test series after losing the first two Tests against England, as well as having a number of key players ruled out of the tour due to injuries, including Kyle Jamieson.

Conway is the fourth person from the New Zealand contingent to have recently tested positive for COVID-19, following all-rounder Michael Bracewell, physio Vijay Vallabh, and strength and conditioning coach Chris Donaldson. They are all now in isolation.

Skipper Kane Williamson also tested positive ahead of the second Test but has now rejoined the team after recovering from the virus.

New Zealand has not yet called any replacements for the infected players as they are expected to recover from the COVID and to be out of isolation after five days, with the third and final Test scheduled at Leeds starting on June 23.

Zealand Cricket (NZC) said in a statement: “The three will travel separately from the team to Leeds on Sunday and providing they recover as expected will be able to join the squad for training at Headingley on Tuesday ahead of Thursday's final Test.”

The statement concluded, “The rest of the touring party have returned negative results and will continue following the tour health protocols of symptom reporting and subsequent testing if required.”
