Legendary Australian wicketkeeper-batter and commentator Adam Gilchrist was critical of Jos Buttler’s poor job behind the stumps on day one of the ongoing day-night Test of the Ashes 2021-22 at the Adelaide Oval between Australia and England.
Buttler had a great start to the ongoing second Ashes Test, as he dived to his right to take a stupendous catch of Marcus Harris off Stuart Broad, but then the keeper endured a horror day two behind stumps, as he dropped Marnus Labuschagne twice on 21 and 95, which allowed Australia to make 221/2 at stumps.
Labuschagne then ended up scoring 103 runs off 305 balls before being dismissed by Ollie Robinson on Day 2, but enabled Australia to declare at 473/9 against England in the ongoing second Ashes Test.
Reacting to the same, Gilchrist said that he can’t have too much sympathy for Buttler after the Englishman dropped two regulation catches on day one of the ongoing pink-ball Test in Adelaide.
Gilchrist said on SEN WA: “It’s just horrible and I felt almost sick in the stomach for him. He’s such a nice guy, but at the end of the day, he’s an English cricketer so we can’t have too much sympathy for him. He took an absolute screamer to get rid of Marcus Harris, it was one of the great wicket-keeping catches and then he spilled a challenging but slightly easier one of Labuschagne when he was on 21.”
The Aussie great believes that the lack of concentration played a role in Buttler’s troubles behind the stumps in the ongoing day-night Test at Adelaide.

He signed off by saying, “But that one late in the evening (he dropped), I can only put it down to a lack of concentration. I don’t think England (wicketkeepers) have always suited Australian conditions, they have a fairly lazy style and technique compared to how we are taught as youngsters.”
Gilchrist signed off by saying, “It was a long, challenging day (for England) and it wasn’t the most entertaining stuff. He can’t have been fully focused prior to that delivery.”
