Australian opener David Warner lauded middle-order batter Travis Head for his scintillating unbeaten knock of 112 runs against England on Day 2 of the ongoing first Ashes 2021-22 Test in Gabba.

After bowling out England for just 147 runs in their first innings on Day 1, Australia, even though lost Marcus Harris early, dominated the proceedings on Day 2 as the duo of David Warner and Marnus Labuschagne stitched 155 runs partnership to put visitors in all sorts of trouble.

However, after the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne for 74 runs, Australia lost wickets in quick succession and was reduced to 195/5. While wickets kept tumbling at one end, Travis Head attacked English bowlers and put his team in a commanding position.

Speaking at the end of Day’s play, David Warner, who scored 94 runs, while admitting that English bowlers bowled well lauded centurion Travis Head, saying that the left-hander backed himself and played great innings.

"They did bowl well, didn't they? They hit the target on a short of a length. What an entertaining inning from Travis Head. It has to be up there for him personally, that's the Travis Head we know. He backed himself and backed his areas and walks off with 112 to his name," David Warner said.

While talking about his knock of 94 runs, David Warner said that he keeps things simple and gives his everything. He revealed that he worked on leaving the balls and it worked well today.

“At the end of the day, you think this could be your last game and you try to give it everything. Keep it simple and give it everything. I left very well today, I have worked on that especially at the Gabba. When you are out of runs, you deserve some luck and I got it," he said.

At Stumps on Day 2 of the first Ashes 2021-22 Test in Gabba, Australia leads England by 196 runs and are 343/7 with Travis Head and Mitchell Starc unbeaten at the crease on the scores of 112 and 10 respectively.
