Ashes 2021-22: New captain Pat Cummins reveals Australia's XI for Brisbane Test

The first Ashes Test starts on December 8.

Australia's new Test captain Pat Cummins has revealed the hosts' playing XI for the opening match of the five-Test series starting on Wednesday (December 8) at the Gabba in Brisbane.

Travis Head is chosen to bat at number five, while veteran seamer Mitchell Starc is also named. Marcus Harris will open the innings with David Warner.

Alex Carey will take the wicket-keeping role after previous captain and wicket-keeper Tim Paine took an indefinite break from cricket following his sexting scandal.

England captain Joe Root refused to reveal his team for the opening Test saying they will look at the pitch and weather forecast before deciding their final combination.

Australia XI: Marcus Harris, David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Steve Smith, Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey (wk), Pat Cummins (c), Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazlewood.
